What this journey is
Snow Town is the famous one, and it is busy. Snow Valley is the same mountain's shaded face — an hour's difference in driving and a different order of quiet. One to three metres of settled snow, a season that runs seven months, and almost no commercial build-out. Guests stay in a farmhouse rather than a hotel and learn to write spring couplets and fold dumplings because that is what the household is doing anyway. Walkers can take the fifteen-kilometre traverse over the ridge to Snow Town and arrive at the famous village on foot instead of by coach.

Day 1 — Arrive Harbin
Met at the airport and transferred into the city · Zhaolin Park, birthplace of the ice lantern, if the flight lands early enough to use the afternoon.

Day 2 — Old Harbin and the ice city
The Daoli quarter on foot — Central Street, the 1906 Modern Hotel, the flood memorial and the frozen Songhua · St Sophia's domes and the architecture collection inside · Ice and Snow World from the late afternoon, before and then after the lights come up.

Day 3 — Snow sculpture and Chinese Baroque
Sun Island for the snow sculpture expo · The Daowai blocks, where Chinese merchants built Baroque frontages and filled them with their own motifs · An early night before tomorrow's drive.

Day 4 — Harbin to Snow Valley
An early start for the five-hour drive south-east into the Zhangguangcai range · Lunch is whatever the farmhouse is cooking · An afternoon on the hill above the settlement using the local kit — timber sledges and short skis rather than a lift system, because there is no lift system · Overnight in the farmhouse.

Day 5 — Snow Valley
The rime peaks in the morning while the frost is still on the trees · Snowmobiles, snow tubes and drift sleds through the middle of the day · Then spring couplets and the blessing character with a brush, dumplings folded properly, and mahjong taught badly by people who play it well · Walkers take the alternative instead: the fifteen-kilometre traverse over Yangcao Mountain to Snow Town, about five hours, with a visitor centre at the top for lunch · Bonfire outside in season.

Day 6 — Back to Harbin
Breakfast, then the five hours back to the city · The evening is free.

Day 7 — Depart Harbin
Transfer for your onward flight, with the Unit 731 site museum or an hour of curling as options if the schedule allows.

Operational notes
The things worth raising before you quote it, not after.
- Farmhouse accommodation means a heated brick kang bed, simple or shared bathrooms and no room service. This is the single most important expectation to set before you sell it.
- Rime is weather. Some mornings the trees are white and some they are not — never promise it.
- Day four leaves Harbin early to reach the valley by lunch. A late breakfast costs the afternoon on the snow.
- The traverse to Snow Town is a real five-hour walk in deep snow. It needs a guide, proper footwear, and a weather call on the morning.
