Harbin In Depth 6D

This is what we run for groups who ask for Harbin properly, and it is noticeably longer than the standard sheets offer. The extra two days buy a full day at Volga Manor, a reconstructed Russian estate an hour out of the city, plus the Siberian tiger park, Jile Temple and the cable car across the river instead of the road bridge. It also leaves room for Harbin's food to be part of the trip rather than a logistics line — Daotai official cuisine, a Russian restaurant trading since the 1920s and a northeastern iron-pot stew tell the same multicultural story as the architecture does.

Day by day

1. 1

   Day 1 — Arrive Harbin

   Met at the airport and transferred in · An orientation loop to place the river, the old quarters and your hotel against each other · The New Synagogue, largest in East Asia, now a museum of the community that built it · Welcome dinner over a northeastern iron-pot stew.

2. 2

   Day 2 — The Russian city

   St Sophia's green domes and the architecture collection inside · The flood memorial and Stalin Park along the embankment · Out onto the frozen Songhua, where the winter swimming club cuts a hole in the ice and uses it, weather permitting · Jile Temple, the city's main Buddhist complex and one almost no foreign itinerary includes · Zhaolin Park, where the ice lanterns began · Both meals today are chosen for the cooking rather than the convenience.

3. 3

   Day 3 — Sun Island and Chinese Baroque

   Cable car over the river rather than round by the bridge — the better view and it saves the walk · The international snow sculpture expo on the island · The Daowai Baroque blocks in the afternoon.

4. 4

   Day 4 — Tigers, history, and the ice city after dark

   The Siberian tiger park, where the enclosure tour runs from a vehicle · The Unit 731 site museum · Dinner, and then Ice and Snow World as a pure night visit — the opposite call to our four-day itineraries, and the right one when there is a spare evening to spend on it.

5. 5

   Day 5 — Volga Manor

   An hour out of the city to a reconstructed Russian estate on the Ashi river — timber churches, a rebuilt St Nicholas, painted pavilions and frozen grounds big enough to hold a full day · Lunch on site · The afternoon is deliberately loose.

6. 6

   Day 6 — Depart Harbin

   Transfer for your onward flight.
