What this day is

Two UNESCO-grade sights sit two hours apart, which is why most visitors give them separate days and lose one of those days to driving. Starting at 07:00 is what makes the single day work: you reach the Panda Base for the morning feed, when the animals are actually awake and out, and Leshan by early afternoon with enough time to take the cliff stairway down past the Buddha instead of photographing it from the platform. It is a long day — twelve and a half hours — and it ends centrally at Tianfu Square.
