Overview
What this journey is
Both halves of this exist as day trips and both are long — Hangzhou in particular runs to twelve hours out and back. Splitting them across two days with a Hangzhou night fixes that, and it puts Wuzhen on the road between rather than as its own return journey. Day two is the standard Hangzhou build: the lake by boat, Lingyin and Feilai Feng, and a Longjing tea village, with about three hours back to Shanghai.
Day by day
- 1
Day 1 — Shanghai to Wuzhen, on to Hangzhou
Pick-up at your Shanghai hotel · Wuzhen East Gate: the Ming and Qing waterfront, stone bridges and lanes · lunch at your own expense · on to Hangzhou for the night.
- 2
Day 2 — Hangzhou, and back to Shanghai
West Lake cruise · Lingyin Temple and Feilai Feng — or the Scissors, Sword and Knife Museum and the Umbrella Museum by the Grand Canal instead · Meijiawu Longjing tea village · about three hours back to your Shanghai hotel.

Operational notes
The things worth raising before you quote it, not after.
- This build uses Wuzhen East Gate deliberately. West Gate is the evening half and does not fit a day that has to reach Hangzhou.
- Hangzhou vehicle restrictions apply on day two: over 18 seats transfers to a shuttle for Lingyin, over 33 seats for West Lake at weekends and holidays.
- The museum swap on day two suits a repeat visitor who has already done Lingyin.
- Rates do not apply over the China International Import Expo or Chinese New Year. Other major trade fairs are usually fine at more than a month's notice.
- Booked inside a fair week, vehicles and guides get scarce and pricing moves with the market.
- Large groups may need a luggage vehicle, which is quoted on top.
- An evening meal or an evening activity adds a guide and vehicle surcharge.
