Overview

What this journey is

Line A is the half of Shanghai that faces the water. It starts in Pudong on the Oriental Pearl’s transparent gallery — the glass floor is on the second sphere, and the museum at the foot of the tower carries the city from treaty port to 1949 in about an hour. The Huangpu cruise runs in daylight rather than after dark, which is the version that shows you both banks properly, and the day closes on the Bund and Nanjing Road. It is private and hotel-to-hotel, so it can start when your client is awake rather than at a coach’s departure time.

Operational notes

The things worth raising before you quote it, not after.

  • Yu Garden, the Jade Buddha Temple and Xintiandi are not on this line — that is Line B, or Line C if you only have one day.
  • Monday closes Yu Garden, which does not affect this line at all.
  • The day ends back at your hotel rather than on the Bund, which suits a client who wants to go out again afterwards.
  • Rates do not apply over the China International Import Expo or Chinese New Year. Other major trade fairs are usually fine at more than a month's notice.
  • Booked inside a fair week, vehicles and guides get scarce and pricing moves with the market.
  • Large groups may need a luggage vehicle, which is quoted on top.
  • An evening meal or an evening activity adds a guide and vehicle surcharge.
